Fruit
of the Vine (5 days):
Savour the Cape winelands with this 4-night itinerary which offers
you a choice of wine routes on a self-drive or private guided
basis. Each route is world renowned for its quality accommodation,
fine cuisine and magnificent surroundings. The Constantia route
spans the historic Constantia Valley where the first wines in
South Africa were produced at Steenberg in 1695. Excellent hotels
in this area include Constantia Uitsig, Alphen Hotel or Steenberg
Country Hotel. Along the charming Stellenbosch route, where a
tradition of viticulture was established in the 17th century,
we recommend the historic Lanzerac Manor and Winery, d’Ouwe
Werf, River Manor or Summerwood Guest House. In fertile Franschhoek,
where many vineyards bear testimony to the strong influence of
the French Huguenots, Le Quartier Français or Auberge Clermont
are highly recommended, whilst the Paarl route, regarded as one
of the country’s leading wine producing areas, boasts Grande
Roche and Roggeland Country House.
