Philine Van Blommestein
Philine Van Blommestein
Philine grew up on a sheep and wheat farm about 200kms from Cape Town and as a child had the privilege of parents who loved to travel and who took the family on long, extensive trips through Southern Africa; South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Mozambique to name a few, so at a very early age, Philine was exposed to much of what the continent has to offer.

She later graduated in Statistics and Psychology at Stellenbosch University in Cape Town and went on to work as a market researcher for many years. She and her husband then traveled through Europe in a second hand mini for a period of three months before settling down and having children (she’s a mother of three and grandmother of one) Since those early days, Philine

has traveled extensively both in Africa and elsewhere in the world and has experienced many different peoples and places in this time; Hong Kong, Thailand, New York, Boston Mauritius, Seychelles, Kenya, Tanzania, fishing for Nile Perch at Lake Victoria, an overland safari through Botswana and numerous visits to Namibia. She’s an avid sport spectator, plays bridge, belongs to an investment club (studying and buying of shares) and enjoys scuba diving and deep sea fishing.

In the early 1990’s, Philine decided she needed a “change of scenery” and began a Tourism course. Instead of convincing South Africans to travel outside of the country, she decided she’d rather bring visitors to South

Africa and so her passion for working in the Southern African inbound tourism sector was born. Philine’s experience in travel has taken her through many aspects of tour operating from planning tailor-made itineraries for individual travelers to working with big groups, incentives, conferences and events.

“Selling Southern Africa to potential visitors, especially first time visitors who are usually blown away by the natural beauty, the people and the diversity of Southern Africa is what makes the work I do so rewarding. When a guest returns home to share the positive experience of their travels with me, I have the ultimate satisfaction of knowing I’ve done my job well”.
