Debra was born and grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Growing up, family holidays alternated between bush breaks to
the Kruger National Park and beach holidays on the Natal Coast
in a small town called Mtunzini.
On
completion of her schooling, Debra went on to do a secretarial
diploma and later, a two year course in tourism at Roodepoort
Technical College. Soon afterwards she joined Mcheni Safaris,
a local tour operator specializing in travel to Zimbabwe and Botswana.
In 1999, just a few months prior to the merger with Conservation
Corporation Africa, Debra joined Southern Africa safari operator,
Afro Ventures. Here she remained until October 2003 as tour consultant
tailor-making itineraries for visitors to Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana,
Namibia and Mozambique.
Over
the past four years, she has been

fortunate enough to visit and experience a good portion of the
African continent she works with on a daily basis. Some of her
travels have taken her to Northern Botswana (Kasane and Chobe
area as well as the Tuli block), Victoria Falls and surrounds,
Mozambique and finally, a self drive itinerary through central
and northern Namibia. Two experiences and highlights for Debra
of this particular trip to Namibia were the towering red sand
dunes of Sossusvlei and the seal and dolphin cruise in Walvis
Bay (where a resident seal hopped on board to better acquaint
itself with her)! In addition to this, she is an avid scuba diver
who spends as much time as possible in Umhlanga Rocks (on the
Natal South Coast), Mozambique and Sodwana Bay indulging in this
favourite pastime of hers! |

In
October 2003, Debra felt it was time to make a change and made
a decision to join her growing number of ex-colleagues at Journey
Beyond.
This is what she has to say about the job she does, “No
two days are ever the same, each new day brings with it different
requests for different destinations from naturally different guests.
Knowing that I am planning an individual’s dream holiday
so that they can get to experience some of the wonderful things
about Africa that I have been fortunate enough to experience (not
to mention the places/destinations that I will still get to see
in my future travels) is what makes each day different, exciting
and worthwhile and that’s why I love to do what I do!”
