Arlene hails from Scotland but being part African by birth
(her mother is South African), she returned with her family to
Johannesburg, South Africa when she was seven years old where
she completed her schooling and went on to study Travel and Tourism
at the Travel Training Institute.
The
excitement of experiencing and seeing new places and meeting
new people and the diversity the industry encompassed is what
initially attracted Arlene to the Tourism business. She began
her career as a travel consultant with Gateway Travel, a retail
leisure and corporate travel agency where she worked for a period
of 3 ½ years.

In 1999, she moved to safari tour operator, Afro Ventures as a
Zimbabwe specialist consultant. She later moved to Value South
Africa, a Spanish Inbound Tour Operator where her focus was on
Group and Incentive Travel to South Africa. After a year and a
half, she decided to take a break from “Africa” and
moved to the United Kingdom where she worked for a year in a London
Hotel handling reservations and banqueting. On her return to South
Africa, Arlene joined Kobo Safaris, another Spanish Wholesaler
specializing in Groups, Incentives, FIT’s and Scheduled
Tours. She remained at Kobo Safaris for 2 years and in June 2004,
joined Journey

Beyond
as a South and Southern African specialist.
Arlene
has traveled extensively around South Africa, Victoria Falls,
Livingstone, Maputo (Mozambique) and Mauritius. Her most favourite
place to visit is the Kruger Park because of it’s’
wide open spaces and the tranquility of being out in the bush,
away from the hustle and bustle of the city. She says, “I
enjoy my job because of the continual challenge of learning
new things each day and having to constantly stay on top of
your game – that we get to travel occasionally as part
of the job is the cherry on top for me!”
