Alex was born in Lisbon, Portugal but grew up in Mozambique, a Portuguese speaking country. Her schooling however took place in Newcastle, South Africa and in the school holidays, she would go home to Mozambique.
Most of her time was spent either at the beach or in the Gorongoza National Park. As her parents owned a holiday home in Vila de Manica which borders Untali in Zimbabwe, many family holidays were spent there too, although the time at home in Beira, Mozambique was always her favourite place while growing up.
After completing her schooling, Alex went on to do a secretarial

the Technical College in Pretoria and later did an Accounting Diploma before going on to complete a Travel Management course. Over the years and in this time, Alex traveled extensively in both Southern Africa and internationally; Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Argentina, Bangkok and of course in South Africa; the Kruger National Park (at least once a year), the Pilanesburg National Park, Addo Elephant park, Cape Town, Durban, Hluhlwe, Swaziland and the Garden route to Port Elizabeth.
Alex was intrigued by the tourism business because of the contact one has with so many different cultures, people and places and so started her |

career in travel as a consultant with Crown Travel, a tour operator specializing in the South East Asian markets and later moved on to Vuestra Tours before joining the Reservations Team at Journey Beyond in 2004.
After 2 years with Journey Beyond, Alex decided it was time to travel again and so left South Africa to live in Australia and thereafter Brazil. Lucky for us, her love and appreciation for the Africa soon brought her home again, and so she rejoined the Journey Beyond team.
Alex says, “I think South African is such a beautiful country, with so much variety. No matter what type of holiday you are looking for, you will find it in South Africa. The diversity of the people and the country just make it such a special destination.”
